Original Starter Ground Terminal in the Frame -
Replacement Starter Terminal in the Back End
The original starter model has the ground terminal located in the starter frame. The replacement model
ground terminal is located in the back of the starter. It is important to identify this difference. Make
sure the starter ground cable is properly grounded on the replacement starter.

Starter Mounting Hole Differences
The replacement starter model may have slightly larger diameter
mounting holes than the original starter model. It is recommended that
a hardened washer (5 grade or better) is used with each mounting hole
for the replacement starter model.

37MT/41MT/42MT Starters
with Jump Start Protection
If the original starter has a Jump Start Protection
shield installed over the starter solenoid terminals,
it is recommended that the shield is transferred to
the replacement model. Or, purchase shield part #
10456430 from your genuine Delco Remy distributor
or dealer.

Starter Commutator End Rotated 180 Degrees
The original starter model’s commutator end (CE) may be rotated 180 degrees different than the
replacement starter. IMPORTANT: make sure terminal connections are made properly and OEM wiring
harnesses length is appropriate.
