The classification of warning lamps is meant to aide in the differentiation of lamps and output based on application and

need. Some applications require brighter light output, while others require light output of a different direction or visibility.

Class I - The Class I lighting classification differentiates warning lights with the sole purpose of being used in applications

in motion at the speed of traffic.

Class II - Class II lighting products are designed for vehicles that are in motion, but not to the speed of traffic.

Class III - Class III products are designed for products that are not in motion at all.

CLASS I, II & III CLASSIFICATIONS

FLASHES PER MINUTE

Flashes per minute, also noted as flashes per sequence, depicts the number of pulses or spikes a lamp generates within

one minute of activity. Flashes per second are usually depicted as single flash, dual flash or quad flash, with the pulses

being grouped together in series of flashes. A great benefit that SWL lamps provide is in their qualification of the flash

being 100% accurate. With the quad flash of an SWL lamp, four flashes of equally high intensity are recorded prior to a

separation gap. When gas discharge lamps generate their quad flash pattern, the first flash peaks at a level greater than

that of the three following spikes, as the lamp needs to recover from its use of power in order to create the next large flash.

All four flashes are not equal, but all can be “counted” equally in determining flashes per second or flashes per minute.
